Tim Burgess was elected to
the Seattle City Council on November 6, 2007 and took office
on January 1, 2008. His current term expires December 31, 2011.
Tim brings to the Council a background in law enforcement,
community activism, business and
journalism.
He was a Seattle police officer and detective from 1971 to 1978,
a period of reform and innovation after decades of public corruption
in city government. He served from 1989 to 2001 on the Seattle
Ethics and Elections Commission, including five years a chair
of this quasi-judicial body responsible for protecting the integrity
and transparency of city government. Tim founded and co-owned
for 22 years a marketing firm that served nonprofit organizations,
chaired the Queen Anne Community Council, and was a founding
member of Queen Anne Neighbors for Responsible Growth.
Tim is Chair of the Councils Public Safety, Human Services and Education Committee and vice-chair of the Planning, Land Use and Neighborhoods Committee.
